Mom Advice Needed

So, Weston has been really sick the past four weeks, and we are SO ready for all of this sickness to be over. We thought that we had overcome the sickness, but apparently, we haven't.

It all started with a runny noise, then turned into difficulty breathing. We were at the doctor with the diagnosis of bronchitis and a prescription on a Thursday. He struggled to breath over the weekend, and we started breathing treatments prior to doctor recommendations on Saturday. He began wheezing, and we were back at the doctor on Monday. He tested positive for RSV, and he was put on a steroid and breathing treatments every four hours. He also had an ear infection in his right ear, so he was on an antibiotic for that. He was okay for the remainder of the week on steroids, antibiotic and breathing treatments. I took him to the doctor this past Friday for his follow-up appointment after being diagnosed 11 days earlier, and he had been running a fever the night before. I thought for sure his ear infection hadn't gone away...I was wrong. His ears were perfect.

He has continued to run a fever every day/evening since Thursday. It's been off and on, and it hasn't reached over 102. I'm concerned, but I'm not sure what's going on. The doctor said his ears look clear. He had a fever all afternoon yesterday, and he was sent home from daycare today with a fever. Did he catch something else at the doctors on Friday? Does anyone have any suggestions?

The worst part...I'm seven and a half hours away in Mississippi for work this week. I can't do anything...I can't check on him. I'm SO sad. I feel stressed and helpless. The worst feeling ever!

I am so sorry that you guys are going through such a rough time; B went through a rough month - month & a half of fever & being off but with nothing actually wrong with him...if that makes since. He just had a runny nose & watery eyes that we are chalking up to his dad's horrible allergies & we are thinking that that just made him feel bad & ran his immune system down!

Could he have allergies or be teething or even going through a growth spurt?

Oh my gosh, we're going through the same situation with our Jackson! He got RSV and Pneumonia in early January and I have yet to get him well. Between allergist, ENTs, our pediatrician, and now a ped pulminologist, we've been in a doctors office at least once a week!!! Jackson is on so many medications that we have to chart it. The diagnosis we got yesterday seems to make the most sense - Pneumonia needs to be treated with heavy antibiotics and steroids, which we never did. I would have blood work done to test for that, which is common with the RSV. Please email me if you want to chat about this more, I feel your pain!

I just hate it when my babies are sick. It makes me feel useless. This year it seems that everyone has been sicker than normal. How many times was he put on antibiotics?

So sorry you are away this week too. :(

How's the teeth situation?

Jeffrey had a low grade fever for about 2 days when getting 2 molars, so maybe that could be why?

Hope he feels better soon!

My son had RSV as well, he was on the breathing treatments a few times his 1st year. He also had frequent ear infections. Whenever he had a fever and it wasn't ear infections or RSV, then it was the "hand, foot and mouth virus" if he goes to daycare its very possible, although I think it is most common in the summer. And sadly there is nothing you can do except give him tylenol or motrin for the pain. Hope he feels better soon!

My son runs a low grade fever every time he's getting a new tooth. With his molars coming in he's had a fever off and on for nearly three weeks! The doctor said all I can do is a little Motrin to help ease his discomfort. Maybe Weston is having the same problem?
