Micromanaging Bridezilla

So, have you ever known someone who was a severe micro manager? Someone who is SO incredibly Type A that they can't rely on anyone, no matter who they are, to be responsible enough to take on a task and follow through?!

I am a member of a wonderful organization this year, and we have a president who resembles the characteristics that I just described. She is a very nice women; however, she is unbelievable. Another member and I were elected to be chairman of a large fundraiser dinner and concert event that is held each year. This year the event will be held in August, and we will have a great band, as well as, a buffet dinner. It's going to be a great event and the fellow member and I have spent a lot of time planning and preparing for the event.

Unfortunately, for Mrs. Type A, that's just not enough. She emails us constantly, many times more than five times per day. If she thinks we aren't getting enough done, she will schedule a "conference call" during the middle of the work day. What is she thinking?! Does she not have a life and how in the world does she have a husband?!

She has stepped on our toes many times with her micromanaging ways, and I've had enough. I'm tired of being pushed around and stepped on. I'm tired of being managed like I am irresponsible and can't get the job done. It's SO frustrating, and more than anything it hurts. I've always been a very organized, type A person, as well, and I'm a natural leader, so I get the job done when asked to do something; however, this women makes it look like I have never been responsible for anything in my life. She doesn't even give us the time to try it out on our own and make a mistake...she takes it into her own hands and makes the decisions for us or pushes us in the right direction.

I want to say something to her to let her know how I'm feeling, but I don't want to be mean. As I said before, she is a very nice women on a day-to-day basis, and I don't want to burn any bridges. The event isn't until August 20th! But how do I let her know that it's frustrating to me, and it makes me feel very worthless?

As for the bridezilla in the title...on a conference call that we had last week, she used the comparison of wedding planners and the bride. She said that she, along with the overall board members, are the bride, and they are responsible for making the final decisions, and we (myself and the fellow chair) are wedding planners. We go out and do all the hardwork, and we come back to the "bride" with our findings, and they make the decisions. First off, that is totally unfair...why would I volunteer to spend all my time on something, if I'm just a wedding planner and my opinion and thoughts don't matter?! And second, if we are the wedding planners, then she is the ultimate Bridezilla!!

Ugh! She sounds ridiculous. I hate micromanagers. They make everything so unpleasant.

Wow! She sounds like an absolute dream to work with (overly sarcastic). I hope things get better because that sounds very frustrating!

i may be overruled on this but rachel, if this is a volunteer thing, you are an adult. TELL HER. do not let her boss you around. she is not your mother, your husband, or your employer.

i frequently ask myself how womenn like that have found men.

All I can say is Ugh. Way to make everyone feel like part of a team with her 'you don't matter and I do' speech. (I do- like a bride! Get it? hee hee)

Let us know when you end up saying to her (if anything- sometimes I know you just have to take the pain).

And congrats on the pregnancy!! I need to put your blog in my reader!!

Thanks for stopping by my blogs and saying hi! Where were you a DZ?

Planning events can be a lot of fun, but not if you are having to deal with a person like this! Good luck with all of that!

I was a DZ at Samford University in Birmingham. Unfortunately, though, we no longer have a chapter there.

That's a tough spot to be in! I can tell you to say something to her but I'm not sure I would actually have the nerve to do so myself. Hang in there- the event comes to an end eventually, right?!
